3 Important Life Lessons Barnes And Noble Mastercard Taught Us

Barnes and Noble have been one of the most popular names in retail card and gift card businesses. In recent years, however, they've been suffering from a slew of bad press. Many customers have complained about the fees for their purchases being higher than their bank or credit card charges. And, given their recent bankruptcy filing, they're now faced with huge losses, which could further drive customers to other, more reputable brands.

So what's going on? The primary reason is that Barnes and Noble aren't issuing their own cards anymore. Instead, they're partnering with MasterCard, which has an almost cult-like following among cardholders. That means that all purchases are handled by MasterCard, which also offers some amazing rewards programs.

For cardholders like me, the most appealing aspect about these deals is the cash back reward programs. They're great. There's no annual fee associated with the program, so you'll never pay any additional costs. As a result, your overall cost will likely be lower than it would be with other cards. Combined with incentives and special deals, it makes it easy to see why so many people are choosing the Barnes and Noble cards as their rewards.

There's a lot more to the deal, however. For example, when you use your Barnes and Noble card at any of the participating stores, you can earn up to a quarter of a million dollars in bonus points. Yes, you read that right. When you make your first purchase at any of the participating locations between now and Valentine's Day, you can earn an extraordinary 25 gift card points (that's one million dollars in savings).

That means two things. First, you'll easily be able to accumulate significant savings over time, simply by making purchases with your Barnes and Noble credit cards. You'll also earn points for every purchase you make, and those points can eventually be converted into cash or prizes. You'll also get access to special offers from Barnes and Noble as well as special discounts at some of its participating merchants. And, most importantly, you get the opportunity to show your love of books and reading in a totally unique way.

The second way to take advantage of the deal is by earning even more than the one thousand points required to earn the extraordinary reward. You do this by making your first purchase and then making at least five additional purchases while using the Barnes and Noble credit card. Each of those purchases must come with the statement “You are entitled to a(n additional) 25 gift card”. Those gift cards can be used to make future purchases at participating retailers. If you follow that scenario, you'll be sitting on a stack of them before you know it!

Last but not least, another great way to use the Barnes and Noble rewards card is to earn some money back from purchases. In order to qualify, you have to spend at least $20 on eligible purchases during your account's lifetime. That means any purchases from now on including gas, groceries, household items, home improvement materials, personal care products, and many other everyday items will earn you rewards points. In order to get that money back, just contact your Barnes and Noble rewards card company and let them know what you've earned.

If you've been holding out, hoping for a special deal, special incentives, or to see a higher interest rate, now's your chance. Most people who hold credit cards with banks like Bank of America, Chase, Discover, or even PayPal don't realize how great it could be if they switched to a new issuer. In addition to the benefits already listed, switching to a Barnes and Noble credit card would mean a lower interest rate. This in turn would give you a larger purchasing power and be financially beneficial in the long run. Once you start using their service, you'll be glad you did and you'll probably never go back to your current credit card issuer.
