Visa and MasterCard are two of the biggest credit card brands around the world, and they have been in business for decades, so why would anyone want to use a Visa or MasterCard when you can use a Discover logo? Let's take a closer look.
Visa and MasterCard are both secured card issuers that require you to carry with you some form of identification at all times. That means you'll need to present your ID as well as proof of income, and this is where the Discover logo comes into play. By issuing their own cards, the two largest card issuers will be able to take control of your purchases without being held responsible for the entire transaction.
Visa and MasterCard also have other benefits, but you have to take them as they come, because they do have some restrictions. For example, both companies do not offer cards for international travel. So if you're going on vacation somewhere other than your home country, you have to find another way to pay.
You'll also find that with a credit card, there's no limit to the number of cards you can use. A Visa or MasterCard will allow you to make one purchase per card, but other cards will allow you to buy as many as you like. The problem with these cards is that they're used in just about every situation that calls for using cash. So unless you use your card like a tool, they'll soon become a burden.
If you're going to be carrying money abroad, you're going to need a secure credit card with an unsecured option as well. This way you'll be able to pay for your food, accommodation, and anything else that might be needed.
There are other options out there as well, so don't think that just because you choose a Discover logo, it's automatically going to work. Visa and MasterCard are great ways to get money abroad, but you'll need a different card.
In fact, if you can't find a great card at all, the options are really limited. It's best to think through your purchases and what you need in order to make a decision. A Discover logo doesn't mean much until you've thought through what you're going to use it for.
When you're travelling overseas, always check with the airlines and hotels before using any credit cards. As long as you have all the right documents and proof of identity, they should be able to provide you with some great cards to use for your needs. Make sure you look at the Visa and MasterCard websites, as well. There's quite a few that will offer you better rates and terms.
Don't be afraid to travel light. You'll be surprised at how quickly you'll be able to get your Visa and MasterCard replaced by a new one with a better card, if you're using a different card.
